Jay was born and raised on a ranch in western South Dakota, which his great grandfather homesteaded in 1881. After leaving for college and getting married, Jay and his family moved all over North America, until returning home to the Black Hills in 2004.

In his career, Jay has been able to see business from both sides of the table – as an executive and as a consultant. As a consultant, he’s worked with medium to large, Fortune 500 companies, helping them execute their strategies and implement the desired changes. His list of clients includes Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Lyondell Basell, Honeywell, Norbord, American Airlines, BP, Husky Oil, and Delphi Automotive.

Jay also has over a decade of management and board experience, starting as a mail room supervisor and most recently CEO of a healthcare organization. This has given him a unique perspective for his clients: understanding the difficulties a leader faces in trying to transform an organization. He also has firsthand knowledge of which change theories, models, and tools work effectively…and which ones do not.

Jay has a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business from South Dakota State University and an MBA from the University of North Carolina. He and his wife Theresa have three daughters: Lexie, Kristina, and Annika. He spends much of his free time in the beautiful Black Hills where he enjoys flyfishing, hiking, and mountain climbing.
