Peter Read brings 40 years of resource sector experience to Evolve’s Advisory Board. The majority of that was in oil sands mining, extraction and tailings, where he held a variety of roles responsible for all aspects of the business and operation over his career.

Peter has held diverse roles responsible for all operations, maintenance, and projects in these areas, and consistently developed and delivered improvements in operational safety, reliability, efficiency and profitability. He brings extensive experience in the design, operation and maintenance of all mining and plant equipment, and in engaging and developing leaders and organizations to deliver strong results.

Peter has 15 years of experience in senior executive roles at Syncrude, where he oversaw many business areas including operations, projects, strategic planning, regulatory, and R&D for mining, extraction, tailings, upgrading and utilities. He has been a board and executive committee member with a number of industry organizations, including the Mining Association of Canada, the Alberta Chamber of Resources, and the UofA Mining Industry Advisory Committee. Peter has led many successful engagements with industry, governments, stakeholders, communities and the public.

Peter is a Professional Engineer who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. He retired in 2021 and currently lives in Edmonton where he volunteers in a number of capacities, including serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alberta.
